CURRENTLY RECRUITING

Volunteer Bookkeeper / Finance Support

We are looking for a retired or semi-retired bookkeeper, accountant, or finance professional who would enjoy contributing a few hours a month to support a growing community arts event in Canberra.

Capital Plein Air is a friendly, collaborative festival that brings artists together to paint outdoors across the city. Behind the scenes, we rely on volunteers with practical skills to help keep things running smoothly.

This role is flexible, low-pressure, and largely remote, with most activity taking place between now and May during the lead-up to and delivery of the festival.

What the role involves

  • Paying accounts as required
  • Maintaining simple, accurate financial records
  • Balancing accounts periodically
  • Providing brief financial updates to the committee
  • Answering occasional queries from the Festival Director

We use Xero accounting software, and systems are already in place. This is not a complex accounting role, and support is available if needed.

Time commitment
Approximately 4–5 hours per month, with slightly more activity in the months leading up to the festival (now–May). Timing is flexible and can be worked around your schedule.

About you
This role may suit someone who:

  • Is retired or working part-time in bookkeeping or finance
  • Has some familiarity with Xero (or is comfortable learning it)
  • Enjoys staying mentally active and connected to the community
  • Is organised and reliable
  • Is comfortable working independently but as part of a small, friendly team
